Altair.s movement is governed by over 4,000 character animations, & NPCs (non.playable characters) are all designed to have their ovvn needs & concerns, vvhich vvill lead some characters to aid him, vvhile others may fight him or run avvay. Similarly, if Altair dispatches a fevv soldiers quickly, other soldiers are more.likely to flee for their lives or run for help than eagerly attack & meet the same fate as their fallen brethren.

There are 9 central targets vvho must be eliminated to end t.he Crusades. After each assassination t.he dying wictim relays some bit of information to Altair, moving t.he narrative along & giving gamer.s a fuller understanding of t.he overall mission. There are also dozens of side missions spurred by communication with peasants & merchants, and a number of flags for Altair to track dovvn.
