After being released on the Playstation Vita in 2014, Marvelous and Tamsoft finally have brought Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus over to Steam and PC. Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus is a more serious take on the ninja schoolgirls that were introduced in Senran Kagura Burst. The game has less features than the latest iteration in the series, Senran Kagura Estival Versus, but it is still a very fun game.

I’ve played my fair share of games that made me cringe, both in execution and in content. Japan knows how to make me cringe the best. They also know how to make great playing games. This is the reason why I’m torn. You see, I played Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus on my PC, and had an absolute blast playing it. At the same time, playing this game is an embarrassing thing.

Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus is part of the ongoing Senran Kagura series, a bunch of initially hand-held fighters that centre on several schools of female ninjas-in-training. It’s clear that this game can easily be thought of as a ‘quintessentially’ Japanese game, and we rarely see the style coming from anywhere other than Japan, if at all.
