Fractal: Make Blooms Not War Reviews and more

Based on 4 critics – Overal Score: 73 / 100

GameInfo: From the creators of the award-winning game Auditorium comes Fractal, a new ambient music puzzler experience. [online bingo site] Cluster and Chain your way through a pulsing technicolor dreamscape that reacts to your every move, while manipulating Fractals, creating Blooms, and expanding your consciousness at 130 BPM. At the surface, it is a mere puzzle game, but as you dig deeper, untold dimensions of expression unfold. Intuitive but complex, challenging but not harsh, Fractal is a truly engaging experience.

All you need to do is arrange 7 fractals of the same color together to form a larger hexagon. You create new fractals by pushing off the boundaries of existing ones. You cannot push directly on fractals; you’ll need to plan ahead. When you put 7 fractals together properly, they will “Bloom.” Blooms don’t just have to be 7 fractals; there can be many sizes of blooms. When a Bloom happens, the outside fractals will explode away from the center. If one of those outside fractals happens to create another Bloom, it causes what we call a “Chain Reaction”. Create Chain Reactions and larger blooms to score higher points!

Campaign Mode
Campaign Mode takes you through the world of discovery. Each level offers new possibilities of play, while continually expanding on challenges. This is NOT a “more of the same game” scenario; we spent a lot of time crafting a lush campaign that expands, bends, twists, and creates new elements of gameplay that will completely alter the way you view the game. Throw in checkpoints at every ten levels and you have one beautiful experience.

Puzzle Mode
Sometimes, it’s just nice to have a controlled environment. Puzzle Mode exposes the underlying mechanics of the game, then pushes them to the limit. Test your mettle against 50+ intense scenarios that will hone your skills enough to see you through Campaign mode, right before they set your brain on fire.

Arcade Mode
If the other modes strike you as too contemplative, Arcade Mode might be more your speed. It’s a good thing the pushes are unlimited, because time is tight and you’ll need to step lively if you want to see the other side of a minute.

Critic Score
GDN Like many puzzlers, Fractal’s gameplay is extremely addictive once you get the hang of it. Instead of lining game pieces up in columns, rows, or other pre-defined shapes, Fractal requires you to create “blooms” in order to score points. A bloom consists of a hexagon shaped group made out of seven or more hexagon game pieces. If blooms are chained together, they make for massive score bonuses. Read Full Review 80/100
GATT Every once in a while an indie game comes out with just the right stuff to make it a good quality game. That is exactly what Fractal is in a nutshell; Created by Cipher Prime Studios, Fractal is a push-color puzzle game, dissimilar from anything else that I have played. In order to score points you have to create “blooms” which are basically a honey comb shaped figure out of the same colors. Sounds easy right? Well by mid-game and three colors in you may hit yourself in the head for being a single push off from beating the level. Read Full Review 80/100
EDGE A good puzzle game subtly rewires your brain, and there are certainly enough surprises lurking within Fractal to get some new synapses firing. Cipher Prime’s extremely pretty offering tasks you with creating “blooms”, circular groupings of seven same-coloured hexes, by tapping an empty space on the board and “pushing” new tiles out in the direction of every piece touching it. It’s a challenging concept to get your head around at first, and not one that you’ll easily confuse with the likes of Tetris or Bejeweled.
