Max Payne: 5 Reasons to Replay

Max’s opening words: “They were all dead. The final gunshot was an exclamation mark to everything that had led to this point.” Tone well and truly set.

It was as unlikely then as it is now that you’d get bored of shooting mob thugs in the neck in slow motion.

The setting of a city besieged by a blizzard = atmospheric perfection. It just wouldn’t have felt the same on a wussy spring morning.

The double delight of all those brilliantly plummy hard-boiled clichés and veteran Max voice actor James McCaffrey’s gravelly delivery.

No multiplayer, but the Dead On Arrival and New York Minute modes made Max’s two-way manhunt even more ferocious.
