Nier Automata PC has stopped working - fix (Possible working solution for random crashes on Nier Automata!)

I restarted your pc, updated latest driver, Verified game cache, and run the game as admin and its working!

I say possible because I've only been playing for 3h with this, so I can't say for sure it won't crash, but I've never been able to play the game for so long before with no crashes.

After launching SmartSteamEmu launcher and running Nier Automata, go to Task Manager and find NieRAutomata.exe on the Details tab. Then right click it, choose Set Affinity, and disable every second CPU. So for a dual core, like mine, you should have CPU 0,1,2 and 3. Disable 1 and 3. For a quadcore, disable 1,3,5, and 7. And so on. I noticed no performance hits at all. So far so good.

http://i.imgur.com/E8tjjlD.png

My specs: i5-6200U, Gtx950m laptop, running the game at 1280x720, Vsync Off, AA 2x, Texture filtering 4x, blur off, shadow low, effects high and ambient occlusion off. I'm not running FAR.

EDIT: Played for one more hour and still no crashes, I guess I can say this works at least for me. I don't know how to fix the common Jet engine sound issue, because I never had it myself.

EDIT2: You need to do this everytime time you run the game, the choices don't stick

EDIT3: Batch file to automatically run Nier with the set affinity:

Copy Paste the code below to Notepad, save the file as .bat in the game directory, run as admin:

pushd %~dp0
start /affinity 55 NieRAutomata.exe

you must change the value "55" depending on how many physical cores your processor has

1 core = value is 1

2 cores = value is 5

3 cores = value is 15

4 cores = value is 55

thanks to /u/firesynth

EDIT4 and final: I tried FAR once I was sure my game was running steadily. Lowering the lighting set did improve fps a bit (although I didn't need it, I'm fine running it at 30-40 fps) but I got lots of stuttering problems that weren't there before, and an actual crash 20min in. Once I removed it everything went back to normal, no more crashes. Maybe it was a badly cracked FAR, I don't know, but I'm not using it anymore because the game runs perfectly without it for me. Try to remove FAR first before you troubleshoot, make the game work, THEN try FAR. Some people got it working with FAR, some had to remove it, read all the comments, you might find some good info.

Enjoy the game everyone!

will try it now. Played for 2hrs without a crash so seems to work on an i5.

The reason it works for you, is because you used fitgirl's. Original repack crashes without an additional fix.

What this does is disable hyperthreading.

Only do this if your CPU supports it.

permalinkembed

[–]afgzkid1 27 points 10 days ago

I am running the baldmen version without FAR and I have a i5 2500k which apparently doesn't have hyper threading but tried the fix anyway just cause, and I have not had a crash in 2+ hrs of game time where as before it was happening every 20 mins. I'm not sure why it works, but it did for me and if your having issues it doesn't hurt to try. I'll edit this post if the game ever crashes again.

[–]zhenle1994 5 points 9 days ago*

Can confirm it works. The game lasted over 5 hours, then crashed right after a boss is defeated lol. I am running Trisec fix without FAR, and lowest setting with 800x600 resolution. Before this it would crash every 20 mins either.

EDIT: Tried using Fitgirl's FAR. It also works. No crashes.

Wow that's surprising. I wonder why it worked for you. Maybe this game just has poor multithreading optimizations.

Anyway, thanks for sharing!

The latest patch (Hot Wheels) for FH3 completely fixes multi threaded performance. Runs like a dream now.

FAR is open source, someone just removed the cracked Nier version checker in FAR and compiled it by source, I think.

Tried it with i5 6600k (and rx 480) which doesn't have hyperthreading but haven't crashed playing for over an hour, so idk, maybe it works somehow too or just lucky.

edit. Played through desert and amusment park with no crashes. Win10, old drivers 16.11.5, AA and texture filter turned off, original crack.

permalinkembed

[–]Rhodiuum 9 points 10 days ago

If you're still having trouble what worked for me is using regedit and adding a TdrDelay of 16 (10 in hex). To do that use the instructions here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/windows-10-display-driver-has-stopped-responding/5caff7ea-bed5-4111-baac-e72d32d4dbe2 . With a delay of 8 i was able to play without crashing for about an hour. A delay of 16 and i played for 6-8 hours without a crash before I closed the game.

permalinkembedparent

[–]metal- 2 points 10 days ago

Is there any performance hit in-game?

And this will change my TdrDelay system-wide right? Will it affect anything BESIDES Nier?

permalinkembedparent

[–]Rhodiuum 6 points 10 days ago*

No performance hit, shouldn't anyways. All Tdr Delay does is tell your graphics driver not to immediately close if it's not responding for more than two seconds, with a value of 10(hex) it boosts that two to 16 seconds. There's some issue with some graphics cards like the gtx 700 series and the 400 radeons where this game seems to throw up errors like that too often. It will change the TDR value system wide. But in game, for me at least, there are small moments every hour + where it'll hitch for a quarter of a second where it would have crashed before. It'll affect any thing that freezes the graphics driver and delay the request to close for 16 seconds instead of 2.

The rate of white screen crashes for RX480 users is something like 99%. Please report back if you're out of the prologue and how far you are, because you are a myth on the steam forums.

Really sorry to be realistic here but there is no fix or bandaid for this crack. Just because you played for 2-3 hours doesn't mean that you fixed it. I timed myself yesterday and I got to play for 3 hours then it crashed. Then I re-launched and it crashed in an hour. The crash is so random that X person makes a change... RNG gives them some time so now they post on the forums saying it's fixed. Sorry it is not and this crack is bad. How do I know this crack is bad you ask? Me and my little brother have the same exact computers (msi 970 gaming with a 4770k). He has the legit version and I have the cracked version. The legit version didn't crash for him once while I get crashes all the time on this Baldman crack. God Bless CPY.

permalinkembed

[–]darksaviorx 6 points 9 days ago

I did two 4hour sessions yesterday with affinity set to core 0/2 without FAR. It did crash once after 4hrs. With FAR it kept crashing at around 10-20min in or when I enter a new area. It's good enough for me to fully play the game now. Don't sure FAR, or experiment with an old version and report back. Yea the crack is bad, but it's all we have.

permalinkembedparent

[–]zedsaso 1 point 9 days ago

Its called placebo effect.

permalinkembedparent

[–]8906 3 points 9 days ago

If it's a placebo effect then why are so many people saying that it worked for them? Like them, I'd get a crash randomly after ~20-30 minutes, but with this fix I haven't crashed in 5 hours.

Some people are saying the fix doesn't work for them, but I can confirm that for my hardware it works.

permalinkembedparent

[–]Xyrhoshi 3 points 9 days ago

I'm not gonna call this one placebo, because I'm experiencing the same resolution. I've tried playing this game several times with and without that crack fix and FAR, and I've never played a game that lasted longer than an hour. I was able to complete the prologue only once, crashing a minute after saving.

Since I tried this affinity fix, I have yet to crash and I'm already past the resistance camp. I've also left this game on and nothing has happened to it. I don't know what disabling hyperthreading does to make this crack work, but it does something.

permalinkembedparent

[–]atriax 5 points 9 days ago

Lol? If he played for 4 hours with it and could only get 20 minutes without it that's not placebo you dumbass.

Exactly. The people keep blaming the crashes on FAR and or other various things but the truth is that the crack is the problem. The game crashes as much without FAR as with it.

The only thing that we know for sure from this whole ordeal is that the Global Illumination in Nier sucks :P

permalinkembedparent

[–]DarkeoX 12 points 9 days ago

Exactly. The people keep blaming the crashes on FAR and or other various things but the truth is that the crack is the problem. The game crashes as much without FAR as with it.

Go on steam forums or really just Google and look for "Nier Automata white screen NVIDIA AMD" and see for yourself.

This is a real issue even for legit users. There's a 70+ pages thread on Steam full of users wondering when a fix will be released and it's been going on since the game was released.

This game is instable on AMD GPUs as well as 780+780Ti + some reports on 970 NVIDIA GPUs.

It appears at some point the driver crashes. It recovers real quick but the game rendering is gone by then.

Maybe the crack does tickle at the buggy bits about this game but it is very well established that the legit version of the game has this problem.

At least now I know I won't buy the game as my GPU is affected by the problem and it still hasn't been fixed to this day.

[–]TTsuyuki 4 points 9 days ago*

Compare the amount of people complaining about random crashes on this forum and on Steam forums. There is a MASSIVE difference. By the way most of the complaints i saw were talking about other things like resolution, lags etc. Even when someone was talking about crashes it were almost immediate crashes, not crashes that could take about 3 hours to occur. Feel free to link me any threads that complain about this specific kind of crashes that occur on cracked copies.

permalinkembedparent

[–]DarkeoX 1 point 9 days ago*

There is a MASSIVE difference

And so what does it say about the legitimacy of game instability claim?

most of the complaints i saw were talking about other things like resolution, lags

Things people were complaining about and were praising FAR for fixing on Steam forums. So another legit game issue that also re-surfaced with the cracked game.

Even when someone was talking about crashes it were almost immediate crashes, not crashes that could take about 3 hours to occur. Feel free to link me any threads that complain about this specific kind of crashes that occur on cracked copies.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CrackWatch/comments/6afgn1/possible_working_solution_for_random_crashes_on/dhf460z/

And for the record, one characteristic of this bug is precisely that people would consistently crash/freeze after 15-20 mins :

https://steamcommunity.com/app/524220/discussions/0/135511913382921167/?l=french&ctp=72

Some other would crash much later but still crash nonetheless.

So some crack users crashing early in the game doesn't invalidate that the original bug may be affecting them, regardless of if they crashed hours or minutes in.

As I already said, it is very possible that the crack/bypass wtv it's called, has increased the bug triggering rate. I'm not denying that.

But I still believe the faulty behaviour comes from the authorized release itself as many legitimate users are still unable to play to this day.

Waiting for CPY to crack this game, and then if someone has crashes the problems can get pinpointed and solved,as it is this "crack" seems to be unstable and a mish mash of files coming from 2 - 3 sources.

permalinkembedparent

[–]TheTwoReborn 4 points 9 days ago

This is what I was looking for.

I'd wondered whether it would work if I bought a legit copy of the game. Now I (if you're right) know. Looks as though it may actually be to do with the crack.

permalinkembedparent

[–]MvP7001 3 points 9 days ago

Totally agree. All these fixes are a placebo effect. But thanks to this crack, I did get to play a little bit more than the demo that was offered allowed. And, as such, I will likely buy the game since I do see myself playing it through.

Unless a real fix or scene release comes out, I do not recommend playing since these crashes are totally random and saves can be somewhat far and in between.

All in all, good game. I'll add it to my PS4 collection when it goes on sale. Thanks for the semi-working crack so I can really get a good feel for it. I'm out! PEACE!

I've played for more than 2 hours, passed the desert, went into the circus area, THEN suddenly it crashed. It's way better than crashing in an couple of minutes tho. My specs: i5-4590, Gtx960 4gb, 16gb ram, game at 1600x900 on fullscreen, some stuff on high, others on low, getting almost steady 60fps, not using any mods, using the crackfix by triplesec. I feel that we're getting close to an solution here.

Oddly enough, changing CPU affinity greatly enhanced stability for me and at first it made no sense, so I dug further. Was crashing often (20 minutes on average if lucky). First the specs/settings:

FX-9590 (O/C to 6 GHz) 8-core AMD proc - does NOT support hyper-threading (that's Intel tech). My physical cores = logical cores.

AMD Radeon R9 290 4 GB series (Exact same as a 390, just re-branded) with 17.5.1 drivers (latest as of writing).

As for game settings:

FitGirl repack (no changes after setup) No FAR. Read entire source code for the mod. Dislike code strongly but I'll skip this. Borderless window (so vsync off) AA 2X AF 16X Blur Enabled Shadows High Effects High AO Enabled Win7 compatability Ran as Admin

Every odd core affinity disabled at launch per OP's thread. 4 hour session no crashes. However I later changed affinity to a single core after diving further. Perfectly stable since.

I did some reverse engineering via both crash dumps (taken while running normally) and disassembly. As that's their IP, I will not go into any details at all.

Suffice to say, during my limited analysis, I spotted some giant red flags regarding multi-threading coding. As specific as I will get.

I do ultra high performance systems for a living often including reverse engineering. So doing this sort of work is second nature to me and I simply said "wtf" during analysis and called it a day (in short). I do this day in, day out on far more critical software.

Coders interested in diving deep, I used ADPlus and WinDbg. Perfectly legal. I will not discuss the reverse engineering (disassembly).

Personal recommendation (not entirely confident as I only did a quick dive) is to workaround their poor multi-threading by forcing thread affinity to a single core. Intel users, you should always have hyper-threading disabled as a general rule anyways.

If I experience any crashes, or decide to dive deeper, I will update. But smooth as silk now.

Off-topic. I am not a reddit user, nor frequent visitor to this particular one. Mods, please feel free to edit this or inform me if I did something incorrect.

Hope this helps someone.

EDIT: One non-stop 12 hour session (single core) no issues at all. While yes, there are other bugs in this game, I'm fairly convinced poor multi-threaded code is a large one of these and this helps workaround it.

I'm aware few run their cores @ 6 GHz so YMMV performance wise. AMD and Intel use different CPU cache architectures for their cores, so I can't speak for Intel at all. Works on all three of my AMD boxes I built, each a variety of hardware. All used to randomly crash.

FINAL EDIT: Done with this game. Not a single crash. Amazingly crappy code for a port I must say. I would so be fired if I wrote this. But considering this is Square I'm not even remotely surprised. Maybe they just discovered that AMD creates the hardware for the vast majority of consoles and mobile devices. Almost... as if PC/console/mobile are all computers. Whoa... mind blown. cough cross-platform NOT ports cough

But I got my RPG fix until the undisputed RPG kings teach everyone how it should be done once again (CD Projekt RED if you live under a rock). Plus they won't be giving Denuvo a dime. Always a plus.

Did NOT work for me, running Fitgirl repack with included FAR. Game will get to some random point in prologue, MGS sound and crash. No overlays running, even FAR overlay disabled.

This solution seems to only help some sadly. The part that annoys me is I cannot figure out if it's the port crashing, the crack crashing, FAR crashing or the specific combo of one of those. It's a bit shameful they've released DLC on the retail page but still no real word on a real patch (that would make FAR less mandatory).

permalinkembed

[–]Whirblewind 2 points 10 days ago

If you're unfamiliar, the 480 (and many 580 and 470 but not all like the 480) hits a prologue white screen. Like, 99% of users. You may be one of them.

[–]Asmod88[S] 3 points 10 days ago

MGS crashing sound is from FAR, try it without FAR or get another cracked FAR version

permalinkembedparent

[–]Aurum0 5 points 10 days ago

It's not an issue with FAR. The MGS sound is the way FAR tells you that a crash is happening and that it logged the issue.

permalinkembedparent

[–]TopinasCorp 5 points 10 days ago

It IS issue with FAR, I had several random crashes with MGS alert sound, after removing FAR game never crashed again.

permalinkembedparent

[–]happycamper87 10 points 10 days ago

Not sure why you're being downvoted. I've been having the same issue with FAR. Tried the latest cracked version and the older versions. They all eventually made the MGS sound and crashed. Removed FAR and no crashes so far. It's different for everyone I guess :/

Edit: To anyone wondering I'm using the included Triplesec+Codex crack bundled with the Fitgirl repack.

permalinkembedparent

[–]Escera 3 points 8 days ago

I've tried many times both with and without FAR. It crashes with the same frequency. The sound effect is just FAR saying that there's an error and the game will crash shortly. It's not the REASON for the crash.

permalinkembedparent

[–]TopinasCorp 2 points 8 days ago

Quess its different for everyone since I truly had no crash since I removed it. I guess it really do warns you of crash from all sources. My issue was FAR itself but you are one of those poor sods that game hate and keep crashing on you for no reason. Well no reason....its because they still haven't patched their game since release!

This worked for me (i7 7700k). Nier Automata or this crack/bypass doesn't like hyperthreading it seems.

update: 15 hours in, not a single crash.

permalinkembed

[–]MvP7001 2 points 10 days ago*

I really don't think this is a hyper-threading issue. I have i7-6700k desktop and a i7-6700hq laptop. Both systems play just fine. Each system did crash only once (white screen/stop responding crash) out of over a half a dozen times playing/testing so far. Other than those 2 rare instances, my play through was flawless until I died near the end (2 buzz saws get me every time!).

I even tested it on an i5-4440 with a gtx 1050 ti. Granted the i5 is not hyper-threaded. I'm just throwing out another system that I've tested the game with and had no issues. I only tested once, but I played all the way to the same spot I typically die, without issue.

I did make it past the 2 saws and beat the main boss on that level. My test extends to simply copying the game folder to another system and playing till I die.

On another note, on Mafia III, I had similar issues with random freezing, then crashing. I traced that back to Riva Tuner Statistics Server running in the background. I turned on "custom direct3d support" and that fixed it for that game. Perhaps a background app is causing everyone's troubles?

I've been running/testing this game with a clean system (Windows 10 on all 3, 2 with Creators Update) with only a browser open and Aida64 + RivaTuner for onscreen FPS. The only tweak I've had to do was on my i7-6700hq laptop. It had the jet audio bug. Running in compatibility for Windows 7 solved that issue. That laptop is Windows 10 Creators Update.

UPVOTE THIS. Just saw in a steam comunity post this "uys, the stutters are not gone but going on playing was crashing over and over. And you know what i did to stop that? I put nier automata process to high priority and disabled the second core of each couple. So open the game go on the task manager and find nier automata process, set affinity to only to core 0-2-4-6 (because even if i have 8 cores, task manager sees them as 7, since the first core is 0...) So far no crashes. Some guy posted this on reddit. Not using f.a.r. but at least i can play " I just did it, and i can finally play the game, NO crashing NOTHING. I couldnt play more than 5-15min before, now i have like 3-4 hours and the game doesnt crash at all. Hope it helps you all :D

I have a i3 4150, and the method you described didn't work for me... But I found a solution for my problem... activate just the core number 1, not the 0, the 1, and set the priority to high... I've played for more than 4 hours and no crashes

I have a possible new fix for those who setting the affinity doesnt work - the main purpose of this is a to disable hyperthreading - but for some reason it didnt help for me like some claim it did for them - so i tried another way im familiar - i went to bios and completely disabled hyperthreading - and there you go!
I suspect that setting affinity manually sometimes on some os/cpu just dont work they way you want it to - try to do what i did - GL!

This actually fixed the random MGS crash sounds for me, I'm amazed. I've tried like 10 different things, and even with the fitgirl repack I would get completely random crashes with MGS sound.

Maybe I'm just lucky but played for like an hour and a half without any crashes with this and that never happened before. Finally I can enjoy the game, thanks a lot.

EDIT. I played more and tested some stuff and this 100% works. No BS/placebo, it will still crash eventually but without doing the process afinity thing my game will crash 100% after about 20 mins, every single time. I know because for some reason the game would automatically set the affinity back to full and it would crash, but once I saw it and changed it back I was able to play the game for more than an hour without any problems.

permalinkembedparent

[–]std5050 2 points 10 days ago

I understand the game has bugs within itself but this crack is just a pain, using fitgirl and no matter what can't get rid of the jet sound.

permalinkembed

[–]darksaviorx 1 point 10 days ago

It's not perfect, but deleting bgm_0_000.wsp AND using a modified BGM.bnk from the cs.rin.ru forums fixed most of the jet sound for me. Backup the files. I still get the jet sound in some areas like the sewers, the robot village, and desert oil field area, but the big areas desert/city ruins/amusement park works. There's probably more files to delete but I don't know which ones. If you can live without sound effects, turning that off makes music and voices work.

[–]kipo322 1 point 10 days ago

I fixed the jet sound just lowering 1 bar of volume from ingame audio settings and changing auto to stereo.

What could lead to crash with FAR mod? I have the cracked one from FitGirl repack, and it crashes on start with MG-alert sound. I have disabled GUI, but it didn't help at all.

permalinkembed

[–]ReinWired 2 points 9 days ago

Does somebody else have problems with FAR's GUI ? I cannot make the menu appear by using Ctrl+Shift+Backspace.

EnableCEGUI is set to true before launching the game but once I press the keys it switches to false, my cursor goes in the top-left corner and the game doesn't react to my cursor anymore. (Pressing keys again makes the game react to cursor again but it's all)

I also tried fiddling with ShowDisclaimer and AcceptedLicense in FAR.ini but the first one get set to false once I press Ctrl+Shift+O and the other one doesn't do anything.

permalinkembed

[–]-Vinzero- 2 points 9 days ago

Same here. Cursor goes to top left corner and the cursor image changes for like half a second, then nothing.

MSI Afterburner & RTSS Disabled too. No idea why it doesn't work, which is weird since the Berseria fix displays just fine.

permalinkembedparent

[–]m0therrussian 3 points 9 days ago

Try going into RTSS and setting detection for Nier to "none". Just closing RTSS doesn't seem to close the process itself. After I did this, I was able to access the GUI. Funny thing is, the game runs much better for me without it.

I've been crash free for hours now, just occasional random frame drops that last ~20-30 seconds once in a while.

permalinkembedparent

[–]-Vinzero- 2 points 9 days ago

It is set to none.

I've been trying to make it work for the past 2 days now, even resorting to using different versions of FAR, but no dice.

In the end I just ended up manually editing the far.ini and being over it, no idea why it doesn't appear.

Hopefully this does take care of the issue for now and then once CPY or another team cracks it in a way with no more crashes, then that would rock, but until then, thank you for the info

So just to point out, the bit about the batch file is a little unclear.

The value you're entering isn't how many cores your processor has, but rather which cores you want the game to be able to use.

If you have a 4 core processor, you want to disable 2 of them for the game, so the value would be 5.

OP might want to update that little bit.

This didn't solve the problem for me, but got more stability thought, before trying this I was able to play 5-10 minutes without crashing running with Windowed Borderless Gaming, now I've been able to play 30 minutes before a crash occurs.

Playing on RX 480 8GB and FX 8350.

EDIT: Tried disabling every core except CPU 0 and CPU 2, been working for 5 hours straight and no crashes, maybe it's because I just letted the game running with 2B standing still, since I'm hanging out right now so my brother is checking out for me, but he said he walked a bit, so MAYBE this is a possible solution if disabling 4 cores didn't work, still have to test more thought.

EDIT: Reinstalled. Got to the boss's 2nd phase. Crashed my computer after one of the hacking minigames. EDIT²: Found a possible solution: I lowered some settings, like resolution. hey I found setting affinity and high riority to core 0 only works better, just add this to the target line in your shortcut if you are on windows 10: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "nier" /high /affinity 1

it looks like this on my shortcut:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "nier" /high /affinity 1 "D:\juegos instalados\NieR - Automata\NieRAutomata.exe"

permalinkembed

[–]el-mocos 2 points 5 days ago*

The information regarding the value needed to set the affinity values is confusing, because it will have different effects on different processors.

The value comes from the affinity mask which takes into account hyper thread cores too.

A value of 5 will enable cores 0, 2

for an i3 this only disables hyperthreading
for an i5 and i7 this limits the game to 2 physical cores only

A value of 15 will enable cores 0, 2, 4

Possibly used on Fx 6300? to limit game to 3 physical cores only
For an i7 it will also limit a game to 3 physical cores

A value of 55 will enable cores 0,2,4,6

for an i7 this only disables hyperthreading
for an i5 it will limit the game to 2 cores only as cores 4 and 6 do not exist

I'll just leave this info here to make of that what you will.

Edits: Formatting, and to report that my experience is that this fix works well but i only used 2 cores on my i5, the value i used for the affinity flag was 5

You really should try FAR, it boosts FPS dramatically, it gives me at least more than 20 extra FPS for me on my poor 750ti, i can play it now on:

1080P

AA=Off

Effects= High

and average around 40~ish fps everywhere, even during intense fighting moments.

Before with the same settings, can't even get stable 30 and always drops to 20s

permalinkembed

[–]Asmod88[S] 2 points 10 days ago

I've been wanting to try it but after trying so much stuff to stop the random crashes, I didn't want to introduce another variable to the game. I might check it now

permalinkembedparent

[–]mistriliasysmic 1 point 10 days ago

My friend and I actually got lower fps with FAR which was strange. My game would run slower and slower and slower until my frametimes were in the 30's to 40's. He suggested removing it and it worked for both of us

permalinkembedparent

[–]fdigl 2 points 10 days ago

This is because FAR (Fix Automata Resolution) Mod is actually intended to be a fix for the games internal resolution rendering. Fullscreen 1080p without this mod is actual something in the ballpark of 900p upscaled. You're getting lower FPS with it because you're actually rendering 1080p with it on.

permalinkembedparent

[–]mistriliasysmic 1 point 10 days ago

Doesn't the upscale only take effect if it's in fullscreen? I remember hearing the game properly scales in windowed.

Anyways, rendering at 1080 I still had good framerates, but slowly increasing frametimes which didn't exactly make much sense (started at 17ms, ended my sessions at 30-40ms)

permalinkembedparent

[–]fdigl 1 point 10 days ago

Most of the time that statement is correct. However there are instances where it is not the case. If you go from fulscreen to windowed when already loaded into the game, there is a possibility that the internal resolution will not switch. I'm not exactly sure about the increasing frametines though.

permalinkembedparent

[–]youssif94 1 point 10 days ago

What settings did you choose in FAR?

permalinkembedparent

[–]mistriliasysmic 1 point 10 days ago

Default for a time, it didn't work. Then I also adjusted to try and make it better, didn't work either. Tried on various versions of FAR as well.

GTX 970 STRIX FX-8320E 3.20Ghz with the 4.0Ghz turbo disabled 24GB DDR3

It doesn't matter too much to me though, I just liked being able to adjust the GI amounts.

permalinkembedparent

[–]youssif94 1 point 10 days ago

well, i don't think you really need FAR after all with a 970? shouldn't you be running it well anyway?

As for default, that doesn't change anything, biggest improvement is Global illumination thing, i avg. 22 fps on Ultra, the game default option, and literally 50+ on low, and it dips to 40s during big fights.

permalinkembedparent

[–]pegases0 1 point 10 days ago

I have a 970, that global illumination setting destroys the fps. I get about 40 on mediumish. Unfortunately far is the only way to adjust it.

I'm just using the fixed crack + FAR, not using the SSELauncher setup. I only had like 5 crashes throughout route A. 2 crashes at the final boss fight and the others were just random.

This alone didn't do it for me. But I lowered all my graphic settings to low.. i7 4790k, 1070 gtx, 16 gb ram.. Another thing I started doing was loading a save after every time i saved the game.

Before I crashed every 5 minutes in the middle of just running around.. played for an hour earlier and tabbed out and the game is still running 6 hours later.

Huh thats weird you shouldnt have any performance issues with a 1070. The only difference between my setup and yours is that you got a better cpu i got i5 4690k try uninstalling your current nvidia driver and download the driver i got which is 376.53.

I own a legit copy so if that doesnt work the problem is related to the crack. You should have 0 crashes,0 bugs and 0 performance dip with your specs atleast thats how the game went for me.

I can confirm that having all the cpu cores active makes the game unstable. I have two physical xeon quad cores on my system, when both are initialized, the game crushes at random points.

What's FAR and MGS?

FAR is a mod to make Nier work and look better. MGS is the abbreviated form of Metal Gear Solid.

The big problem for me is not the crashes, it's the jet sound bug that when the game crash and I try to open it, the sound accure and never stop, only after 5 or 6 restarts make it go away. any solution for that!!

It runs pretty good, at least completely playable for me, resolution issues aside. I just have this strange problem where it starts to lag like crazy after playing with my ps3 controller a while. It's solved by simply pressing a key on the keyboard. It's annoying, but not gamebreaking, but I've not seen any mentions of this problem.
