GameInfo: Wargame: European Escalation is a new real time strategy game built around depth and reflection, the key elements of classic wargames. The game features intense real-time battles, stunning graphics, and the amazing IRISZOOM system, which allows a continuous zoom from a global view of the map to the heart of the action. With real strategic gameplay, rich content, integration of EugenNet and its numerous online services, Wargame: European Escalation will unite all the world's biggest strategy fans.
Set in the rarely explored period of 1975-1985, Wargame: European Escalation pits NATO (USA and Western Europe) against the Warsaw Pact (Soviet and Eastern European countries) in battles that explore “what could have been.” The specter of nuclear warfare loomed large over the real Cold War, but this catastrophic outcome was the ultimate last resort as everyone knew that the first one to start nuclear hostilities would end up wiped out just the same. Large, armored offensives through Europe would certainly have been the core of this hypothetical war; and this is what the game’s explosive campaign takes you through!
Destructoid Eugen Systems impressed with their Act of War games and followed it up with the ambitious R.U.S.E.. Wargame doesn't quite go as far into niche territory as a simultaneous turn-based strategy game with hexes does, but it's by all accounts a game geared toward the kind of military fetishists who thought the only good thing about Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was when the AC-130 was told to use SABOT rounds. Strategy Informer Well, we will say one thing: Wargame: European Escalation doesn’t really have the most original title we’ve ever seen in a strategy game. Thankfully, the lack of imagination ends there as it proves to be a surprisingly good time sink, and is all round a more refreshing experience. For those of you who haven’t heard about it yet – Wargame presents a ‘what if’ Cold War scenario where, essentially, World War Three breaks out in Germany. Not something that’s always covered, as the Cold War seems even less favoured than World War II at the moment, but it does fit in quite nicely with the whole set up. Read Full Review
