Endless Space Reviews

Based on 14 critics - Overal Score: 83 / 100

GameInfo: This galaxy is ancient, and its first intelligent life was the civilization we call the Endless. Long before our eyes gazed upon the stars they flew between them, though all that remains of this people is what we call Dust. A substance found scattered or in forgotten temples, it once gave powers to admirals and galactic governors.

Hooked Gamers My heart kept thumping in loud excitement during my first hours of playing Endless Space. I loved Sins of a Solar Empire, but it was real-time. Endless Space is turn-based and very close to Master of Orion, the yet unsurpassed granddaddy of space-themed 4X strategy games. There hasn’t been any game like this for years, at least not of this quality, not with this intricate depth and not with this level of polish and the small niggles I listed previously do not detract from that in any way. Endless Space is a glorious return to form for a much beleaguered genre that was given up by many for not being ‘modern enough’. Does it displace MOO? It doesn’t, but boy does it ever come close. Dealspwn Endless Space is a sensational 4X title: absolutely epic in scope, but packed with dense, enjoyable features and boasting an intuitive, palatable GUI. Its infinitely customisable sandbox is chock-full of toys and things to occupy your time, providing profound choice and variety at every gameplay level. Though streamlined fleet combat may deter hardcore strategy fans, Endless Space really does let us make the universe our own. Read Full Review

Leviathyn Usually when I’m judging indie games it’s by a different standard. We have to take into consideration the fact that there was probably a small, couple man team doing the job that big developers have hundreds of people doing. Indie games are usually reviewed with more consideration on the idea than the execution. But for Endless Space, this is not the case at all. Read Full Review

GotGame Endless Space is a turn-based 4X strategy game set in space. For those of you who haven’t played Master of Orion (MOO), it’s essentially Civilization in space. You colonize planets, research techs, and make space dust of any alien foolish enough to get in your way. Read Full Review

KokuGamer Endless Space is a strategy game that brings forth a unique feeling of immersion and customization that can make people disappear for hours on end. With Endless Space in their library, good luck doing anything productive. With solid programming and clever game design Endless Space proves to be one of the best pure strategy games they have played. Read Full Review

MMGN In all sincerity, I love Endless Space. It’s one of the best 4X games I’ve played in a long time, doing just about everything that is important to the genre correctly, while providing their own taste of things. I’m an egotistical, narcissistic person, and providing an outlet to this in the form of complete and utter domination of my foes via treachery or sheer firepower is just a satisfying experience that I cannot highly recommend enough. Gaming Illustrated Endless Space is a really solid 4X space sim sold at a really reasonable price on Steam. Frankly, if you are fan of the 4X genre you’re going to want to buy the game and for those of you that love the whole space theme it’s a must buy. While it might play a little too slow for our tastes and have a really steep learning curve even on the easy modes, it’s an enjoying time vampire that has a tremendous amount of replayability that fans of this genre will definitely dub a big winner. Explosion Great civ-building strategy games seem to be coming at a snail’s pace these days. It once was a hugely popular PC gaming genre, but the industry’s shift toward action titles has forced it into a corner, where only sequels to already well established franchises are making waves, and new IPs are mediocre at best. Luckily, Amplitude Studios was willing to takes risks in order to deliver something new, and thus, Endless Space was born, and it provides a much-needed breath of fresh air to a struggling genre. DualShockers When it comes to eye candy, Amplitude Studios’ new entry into the 4X genre certainly has a right to brag. Endless Space is a beautiful and well detailed turn-based strategy game that follows an old, solid concept for space games. When they first heard of Endless Space, they were drawn to it’s Alpha by something they had to look twice to believe – a developer was letting players choose between models and artwork by voting on their website. It might have been a bit of a gimmick, but it was interesting to use their tools to track the games progress through Beta and the eventual release. Read Full Review

Parable Indie games tend to have fairly low production costs and are usually kept extremely simple as a result of this. Amplitude’s ‘Endless Space’ proudly breaks this mould, offering a complex and in-depth experience that wont leave players feeling short changed. It’s clear to see that Endless Space aims to match up against the titans of its genre, and we’re here to see if the game manages to achieve its goals. Read Full Review

IGN I'm caught in a dilemma. I know that I should be telling strategy fans that Endless Space is a great new take on a classic genre, but I'm worried that if people buy this game they'll all but disappear of the face of the earth, their friends reporting them as missing persons. Amplitude Studios might as well have called their game Black Hole, because it has the most incredible ability to suck you in, to trap you and to somehow warp spacetime around you so that, on the rare occasions you're able to tear your eyes from the screen, entire hours have been lost. I swear that my hair was noticeably shorter when I started reviewing this game. I've given up making hot drinks while I play, since they either grow cold beside me or I forget to even pour the kettle and I find I have to boil the blasted thing again. Read Full Review

The Controller Online Endless Space is a traditional turn based strategy game, created in a very n0n-traditional way. Through a system they’re calling Games2gether, Amplitude Studios chose to go through a multi-stage beta program where their testers voted on which features would stay, which would go and which would be added after the game has been released. This approach caught my attention as I’m often an hour into a game, thinking things like 'if only they had an option for this', or 'how could they not have thought of that.' So, can players design games? Let’s find out. Read Full Review

Eurogamer One of the advantages of gaming's increasingly fragmented digital landscape is that the cracks allow niche titles to poke out into the spotlight, and so it proves with Endless Space. An entry in the under-served 4X strategy genre, it asks you to explore, expand, exploit and exterminate as you build up a galactic empire, seeking domination through scientific knowledge, military might or financial success. Gamerevolution Like many sci-fi 4X titles before it, Endless Space casts you as the head of one of many races vying for superiority in a galaxy with limited real estate and resources. As ever, the goal is to explore the galaxy, expand your empire, exploit the territories you colonize to the fullest, and exterminate your opponents. Where this game distinguishes itself, however, is in how it makes genre elements that are usually tedious feel fresh and enjoyable with several interesting design choices, the most far-reaching of which is the interface.
